THE PROCESS How is breast reduction surgery performed?
Breast reduction surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, and lasts between two and three hours, depending on the individual needs of the patient.
During the surgery, the excess breast tissue is removed from the middle and lateral aspects of the chest, the nipple and areola are relocated and lifted to their anatomic position, and all wounds are closed with the scars being located on the underside of the breasts. Dr. Durand will minimize unnecessary scars.
The end result is a chest which is size-proportionate for the patient, and provides a lighter and more comfortable chest for all activities of daily life. The surgery is mostly performed as a day-surgery procedure on an out-patient basis.
