Breast lift
A breast-lift, also referred to as a mastopexy, is a surgical procedure whereby droopy breasts are replaced to their normal anatomic position.
This provides tonus, structure, and a more youthful appearance to the breasts. The basic problem that leads to a condition of droopy breasts is that skin envelope surrounding the breast tissue has become stretched or loose. The answer to this problem lies simply in tightening the skin envelope around the breast tissue and replacing the supported breast tissue to its youthful, uplifted position.
THE PROCESS How is breast lift surgery performed?
To perform the procedure, Dr Durand makes a few incisions around certain areas of the breast, excises some skin, reshapes the tissue and then tightens the skin to create perkier looking breasts. He may also reduce the size of the areola and reposition them to make the breasts look young and symmetrical. This surgery allows you to lift your breasts to an upright position and create an even and aesthetically appealing bustline.
Dr Durand uses one of the following incision techniques to perform a breast lift. These include:
- Anchor Lift (Inverted T Scar pattern): An anchor lift requires three incisions. One around the edge of the areola. The second running from the areola to the breast crease, and the third along the inframammary fold.
- Peri-Areolar Lift (Circular scar pattern): Involves a donut-shaped incision around the edge of the areola.
- Vertical Lift (Lollipop scar pattern): Requires two incisions. One donut-shaped incision around the areola and the other from the areola to the inframammary fold. Vertical lifts are ideal for patients who need extensive reshaping.
